This paper deals with an analysis of rotation effects on unsteady free convective flow past an impulsively started vertical plate with variable mass diffusion in the presence of transversely applied uniform magnetic field. The problem is solved analytically using the Laplace Transform technique. A selected set of graphical results illustrating the effects of various parameters involved in the problem are presented and discussed. The numerical values of skin-friction have been tabulated.

Aim: To assess the long-term effects of antioxidants in individuals according to age and sex distribution. We studied the effects of antioxidant functional foods and nutraceuticals on Malondialdehyde (MDA) level. Methods: The studied subjects included a total of 150 healthy adults of 96 men and 54 women aged between 30 and 74 years. At the baseline visit, eligible candidate were randomized to either 1 capsule per day of antioxidant nutraceutical or antioxidant functional foods or placebo, and the first dose was dispensed and followed up for six months. Results: The results were grouped based on gender and age ranges, positive decrease in the MDA after antioxidant dietary intervention and lower concentration in men than in female at some age ranges was observed. Conclusion: We suggest the use of antioxidant functional foods as an alternative to antioxidant nutraceuticals/functional foods in reducing the effects of MDA in either healthy or stressed individuals.

Stress has been viewed as an inevitable consequence of work life. A worker will fell stress when his or her does not match their job requirements. Work stress come from a variety of sources and it can affect people in different ways. In the report The Scale of Occupational Stress (Smith et al., 2000 in Jeremy, 2005) it was estimated that there were 5 million workers suffering the high level of stress at work. The study shows the important outcomes that approximately one in five workers reported stress arising from work. There were cause by excessive workloads or lack of managerial support, ill health and back pain, together with certain health related activities such as smoking and alcohol intake.

From the experimental verification, as expected the mechanical properties of foamcrete were reasonably low when compared to normal weight concrete. Nonetheless there was a potential of using foamcrete as fire resistant partition or as load-bearing walls in low-rise residential construction. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of this proposal, this paper presents a preliminary feasibility study on its fire resistance and structural performance of foamcrete based system. The objectives of this feasibility study are tp investigate the fire resistance performance of foamcrete panels of different densities (650, 800, 1000, 1200 and 1400 kg/m3) when exposed to fire on one side for different fire resistance ratings based on insulation requirement and to examine whether the composite walling system had sufficient load carrying capacity, based on compression resistance at ambient temperature.

The Schiff base, 3-{[(6-methoxypyridin-3-yl)imino]methyl}-5-nitrophenol, formed by condensation of 5-amino-2-methoxypyridine and 2-hydroxy-5-nitrophenol; and its metal(II) complexes{where M = Mn, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pd} have been synthesized and characterized by %metal, melting points, IR and electronic spectroscopies. The complexes analyse as [ML(NO3)] with the exception of the Ni(II), Cu(II) and Pd(II) complexes which analyse as [MLCl(H2O)] respectively. The IR data confirm that the Schiff base coordinates via the imine nitrogen and phenol oxygen atoms; while the electronic data support a 4-coordinate tetrahedral/squareplanar geometry for the metal complexes. The metal complexes are air-stable solids, which melt/decompose on heating in the temperature range 228-390 oC; while the metal–free Schiff base melts at 208-210 oC. The in-vitro antibacterial studies reveal that the Schiff base, its Co(II) and Zn(II) complexes have a broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against Bacillus cereus, Pseudomona aeuriginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus mirabilis with inhibitory zones range of 14.0-22.0mm.

This study investigates the learning strategies of students for the reading comprehension courses in a semi-distance educational system in Iran called Payam-e-Noor University with over 500,000 students in different branches all over the country. By using qualitative data, i.e. interview, this study intends to examine the viewpoints of students regarding how the reading comprehension tests in Payam-e-Noor University can influence the way they learn. The results indicate that the washback effect works quickly in bringing about changes in learning strategies of students.

Over the past decades, studies of language skills have showed the importance of reading comprehension ability among EFL learners. This study aimed at determining the relationship of brain quadrants with reading comprehension skill among Iranian EFL students. The study was based on Herrmann’s Whole Brain Model. 110 University students studying TEFL at Islamic Azad University of Mashhad were randomly selected for the purpose of this study. Herrmann's Whole Brain Dominance questionnaire and a standard TOEFL reading comprehension test were used in the study in order to measure students' brain quadrant preference and reading comprehension ability. The results of statistical analysis indicated that there was a positive relationship between brain quadrants and reading comprehension ability. The study concluded that students, who were D quadrant preference, performed significantly better (P < .05) than the other learners on reading comprehension test.

The aim of this work was to determine the concentrations of some essential elements ( Br, Ca, Fe, Mg, Mn, Na, K and Cl ) in the muscle of three species of commercial fish, Dentex macrophthalmus, Sardinella maderensis, Engraulis encrasicolus (fin fishes) and a Mollusk (Cymbium cymbium ) consumed in Ghana. The concentrations of the elements in the four marine organisms from different areas along the coast of Ghana were determined using Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA). The irradiation using thermal neutrons were done using the Ghana Research Reactor – 1 (GHARR – 1) facility at Ghana Atomic Energy Commission, Kwabenya. Only the edible tissues of the marine organisms were analyzed. The range of concentrations of the essential elements measured in the studied samples were : Br (2.7-33mg/kg), Ca (2150-9300mg/kg), Fe (50.2-90.3mg/kg), Mg (3300-7700mg/kg), Mn (0.18-9.88mg/kg), Na (3600-21700mg/kg), K (9900-17400mg/kg), Cl (3960-9400mg/kg). The precision in terms of relative standard deviation was within ±4. The accuracy of the method was evaluated by analyzing a reference material. Our values were within ±3% of the certified or information values in all cases.

The P-Value models were designed by the researcher to teach Place Values in mathematics. The P-Value models are tools which is methodology in nature. It depicts yet another / alternative practical way of teaching Place Values in Mathematics to the usual / known method (Appendix A; Appendix B) of teaching Place Value (Kumassah, 2012; Price 2002; Price, 2001). The mathematical formulas of the P-Value models shows the step (s) / movement (s) involved in arriving at a specific number (s) / figure (s) and also the total / sum / overall number (s) / figure (s) in each P-Value models. The mathematical formulas of the P-Value models can be employed in teaching and used at the industry level. The researcher is of the view that the use of the P-Value models may help teachers teach Place Value effectively and students learn meaningfully of Place Values in mathematics. The P-Value model solution-boxes serve as a calculator to the actual calculators. It gives the same answers as that of the actual calculators and also shows and reveals the hidden mathematical operations of the actual calculator. Instead of a student manipulating the hidden operations of an actual calculator, with the P-Value model solution-box he/she practically sees and manipulates that hidden operations of a calculator.
