Twenty sample of bottled raw honey were analyzed for the presence of thermostable amylase producing bacteria by streaking 0.1ml aliquots of suitable dilutions on Nutrient Agar in duplicates. The plates were incubated at 370C for 24hours. The isolates were sub-cultured and stored in slants for further use. Amylase production was detected by streaking on Starch agar plates and incubating at 55oC for 48hours after which the plates were flooded with iodine solution. The amylolytic activity was confirmed by clear zone around the bacterial colonies. Amylase production was carried out in a basal medium containing soluble starch. Bacillus licheniformis was capable of maximum amylase production at 40oC at pH 7.0 (254µ/ml). Amylase production was highest in fructose (190µ/ml) while peptone was found to be the most suitable nitrogen source for the enzyme activity (17µ/ml). Thermostable ?-amylase produced by Bacillus lichenformis had characteristics which makes it suitable for industrial applications and starch processing.

The utilization of wind energy for power generation is becoming increasingly attractive and gaining a great share in the world power market. Wind is one of fastest growing energy source and is considered as an important alternative to conventional power generation. The energy production from a wind energy system depends on many factors namely characteristics of the wind profile, and most importantly, the operational parameters of the wind turbine generator itself. The suitability of a wind turbine to a site involves designing of wind turbine’s operational parameters exactly according to the wind characteristics of the site. The present work is the analysis of energy generation of a 800kW wind project at Belagavi of the state of Karnataka, India. A mathematical model is developed to study the parameters that affect power generation. These include wind speed, air density, pressure, temperature, blade length, pitch angle etc. The study shows that the operational parameters have a direct effect on the power generation. This will lead the developers and researchers to focus on the highest priority parameters for manufacturing and optimizing the new generations of wind turbines. The method can be used in developing stage of wind energy system.

A novel series of 2-substitutedimino-6-amino-4-[2-isobutoxy-5(4-methyl-5-carboxy-1,3-thiazo-2-yl)]-phenyl-1,3,5-thiadiazines had been recently synthesized in this laboratory by refluxing 2-(3-substitutedthioamidoforma midino-4-isobutoxyphenyl)-4-methyl-5-carboxy-1,3-thiazoles with various isocyanodichlorides in acetone-ethanol medium in 1:1 molar proportion for 2 hours. The structures of all the synthesized compounds were justified on the basis of chemical characteristics, elemental analysis and spectral studies.

In case when the the partial pressure of oxygen above its minimum value, it is revealed that the consumption rate of o-xylene is represented by the equation half order with respect to the substrate as well as given the kinetic equation for the rate of accumulation of products of the ammoxidation of xylene on V-Sb-Bi-Cr / ?-Al2O3-oxide catalyst. The kinetic model of process describing the rate of reaction products formation and consumption of reaction products is developed as a result. Constants of the model are calculated.

The vibrational spectroscopy of 1-isopropyl-4-methyl benzene [IMB] by means of quantum chemical calculation has been studied. The FT-Raman and FT-IR spectra of IMB have been recorded in the region 3500-50cm-1 and 4000-400cm-1 respectively. The fundamental vibrational frequencies and intensity of vibrational bands have been evaluated using HF and density functional theory (DFT) with standard B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) and HF/6-31+G(d,p) basis set combinations for optimized geometries. The observed FT-IR and FT-Raman vibrational frequencies have been anlaysed and compared with theoretically predicted vibrational frequencies. The assignments of bands to various normal modes of molecule have also been carried out. The electric dipole moment (?) and the first hyper polarazibility (?) values of the investigated molecule have been computed using DFT calculations. The calculated HOMO and LUMO energies show that charge transfer occur with in the molecule.

Dissent is a way of life for a few. Mahasweta Devi, a daring and tireless political activist, academician, journalist and creative writer, is one among those few who register their dissent at every given opportunity. She is widely acknowledged as one of India's foremost literary personalities. A prolific creative writer, she has to her credit over a hundred books including novels, plays, collections of stories, children's books and journalistic literature. Most of her works have been originally written in Bengali and translated into English and a number of other languages. The stark realities and systemic injustice around her paved way to become a writer – activist. Her involvement in the People’s Theatre movement of Bengal, the wake of Naxalite movement of the 1950’s and the first hand experience of the life and struggles of tribals in Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh shaped her life and career. Major part of her journalistic writings describe the “police atrocities, failures in the implementation of government programmes, exploitation of sharecroppers and miners, unemployment and landlessness, environmental degradation, and the need to protect and foster tribal languages and identity” opines Resil B. Mojares in a vehement tone. Even in her late eighties, Mahasweta Devi travels extensively and collect first hand knowledge about the people she writes about. The unique features that distinguish Mahasweta Devi mainly from the rest of the authors are her strong convictions and concerns over the ordinary people, who wage their battles in extremely ordinary circumstances. She wants her work to be read as a plea for the insertion of tribals into the Indian mainstream from which they have been hitherto excluded. Mahasweta Devi thinks that there are innumerable social evils that constrain tribal development in India and her works lend themselves to readings within sociological critical framework. Among her contemporary Indian writers, Devi occupies a unique position through her exceptional perspectives on social and political life apart from the commitment to the poor, downtrodden and the de-notified tribals. More than any other writer either in Indian languages or in Indian English, she is able to mix her political and social convictions and activism with writing. Her writings not only give voice to India’s marginalized tribal people but also stress the abject subordination of women in Indian society. Her most memorable characters are often women - Draupadi, Doulati, Mary, Jashoda, Sanichari etc. These women are oppressed and marginalized by society in many ways. Yet their spirit of resistance and resilience transform these ordinary women extra ordinary. Scholars see her powerful tales of exploitation and struggle as extremely rich sites of feminist discourse. India is a country where activist writing is a recent phenomenon. Devi’s activism distinguishes her from her contemporaries from across the country. Through translation her works are widely read and winning readers across the world. While most writers are keeping themselves away from the everyday struggles of the common people and concentrate on the imaginary worlds where romance, glamour and existential dilemma rules the roost, Mahasweta Devi’s works are a slice of our society. “The Breast- Giver” is a part of a trilogy entitled Breast Stories by Mahasweta Devi translated into English by Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak. It is the story of a female subaltern, a housemaid from post-colonial India who is subjected to exploitation, sexual harassment and oppression from patriarchy and male-dominated society. She finally succumbs to death in the most painful way, leading the readers to compare her with the dying Mother Earth. This paper attempts to explore how Mahasweta Devi's protagonist Jashoda in the short story " Breast–Giver” identifies herself with the Mother Earth and finds solace in the lap of nature.

Uniformity trials are needed to determine suitable shape and size of the plot for fertility variation in land. The suggested model is more adequate model over well known Fairfield Smith variance law and also removes all the objections by Cochran (1977) for Fairfield Smith variance law model. The adequacy of suggested model has been examined by the given data in Haque et al. (1988). Key words: Fairfield Smith’s Variance Law, nonlinear model, uniformity trial experiments.

In this paper we present a new method to compute the determinants of matrices of order 4. This method computes the determinant of matrices of order 4 by using the schemes.

Desquamative gingivitis is a fairly common disorder, with wide range of causes. It is clinically characterized by erythematous and desquamative involvement of the free and attached gingiva. It may be the initial symptom of the underlying disorder, and patient may report to the general dental practitioner or subject specialist with specific signs and symptoms.. The presence of plaque induced gingival inflammation may exacerbate the condition, mask histological features of the underlying disorder, and can lead to delay in diagnosis and misdiagnosis. The present report describes case of desquamative gingivitis and its management.

The bark of the cinnamon tree has a long history both as a spice and as a medicine. It has been reported that the healing abilities of cinnamon come from three basic types of components in the essential oils found in its bark. This present study was to assess the microbial contamination that might arise as a result of recommended drying methods and the efficacy of extracts from different dried cinnamon parts on selected microorganisms. Oven dried samples recorded no microflora due to the high temperature in the oven destroying all vegetative cells in the samples. The root bark samples had a higher microbial count than the stem barks. None of the extracts from both the dried stem and root barks was effective at inhibiting the growth of E. coli. Cold water and ethanol extracts of the stem bark did not have an inhibitory effect on S. aureus. Hot water extracts of the shade dried samples did not show any inhibitory effect on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. For the inhibition of P. aeruginosa, oven dried samples showed a higher zone of inhibition than samples dried under shade.
